The name of this company is an acronym for the founder’s name: Mr TV Sundaram Iyengar founded his first venture in 1911. However, the first two-wheeler rolled out of its facility in Hosur only in 1980, via a collaboration with Clayton Dewandre Holdings from the UK. Sundaram Clayton formed a joint venture with Suzuki Motor Coporation in 1982 and motorcycles from this JV made it to market in 1984. It separated from Suzuki in 2001 and according to an agreement, couldn’t bring out competing products for 30 months after the split. However, TVS soon got into scooters with the Spectra, their take on the Bajaj Chetak and Honda Eterno. It then moved to the Scooty, a two-stroke gearless scooter that caught the imagination of the public. It now sells a range of value-for-money scooters that displace 90cc-110cc.

It’s been a while since I rode my Hero Xpulse to office. This Hero motorcycle was my primary use of transport each day, but then the TVS iQubeS entered my life, and a lot of things changed. Firstly, I had to convince myself that I will need to spend more time commuting due to lesser average riding speed.
