The KTM RC390 is a middleweight supersports motorcycle which replaced the Duke 390 as the flagship motorcycle in India. Currently, the fastest motorcycle in KTM's Indian portfolio, the RC390 is a faired version of the naked Duke 390 with minor alterations to its chassis which improve its riding dynamics.
The RC390 gets an angular faring and windshield which not only enhances its aesthetic appeal, but also reduces the motorcycle’s drag coefficient. The new clip on handlebars, step seats and the repositioned footrests and pedals, which are now forged, give the motorcycle a sporty riding stance. The RC390, like the Duke 390 gets a fully digital instrument panel which displays a whole bunch of read-outs like the gear position, rpm reading, service reminder information, fuel consumption and range among others. The rear of the RC390 gets a very interesting design feature- a matte black rear seat which resembles a racing bike’s rear cowl.
Built around a steel trellis frame, similar to the one in the Duke, the engine serves as a stressed member. The front wheels get 43mm inverted forks while the rear gets a monoshock that is directly linked to the alloy swingarm. This setup increases the motorcycle’s stiffness and stability to give the rider the feel of a supersports motorcycle.
The RC390 is powered by the same single-cylinder 375cc engine which is also found in its naked sibling. The engine is liquid-cooled and gets electronic fuel injection to ensure good performance, respectable economy and reduced emissions. It pumps out 43bhp and 35Nm of torque and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox, which gets the same gear ratios as the Duke 390. Braking is facilitated by disc brakes both at the front and rear. ABS is offered as a standard fitment, though it can be disengaged by holding down a button down on the instrument panel.
The full fairing has increased the RC390’s weight by just eight kilograms, which means that the RC390 is an insanely fast motorcycle. The fairing not only adds flair to the motorcycle, but also aids aerodynamics, which means that the RC390 will be faster than its naked sibling. Currently, the Ninja 300 is the only other supersports motorcycle which can come close to the RC390 in terms of performance. However, the big price gap between the two means that the RC390 will definitely attract a bigger audience.
As reported by RC390 [2014-2016] owners, the real mileage of KTM RC390 [2014-2016] is 26 kmpl. As per ARAI, the average of RC390 [2014-2016] is 25 kmpl.

The buying process was a bit dodgy as ktm had just set up shop in India when I purchased the bike.I bought this specifically to ride fast on an excellent stretch of road near where I lived. It did that excellently while looking sumptuous.Service and maintenance aren't too out of reach as long as one doesn't break the bike completely. If one understands the purpose of this bike there are only pros, no cons. The few niggles it had were corrected in subsequent versions. It is a brilliant example of a hardcore small sports bike. It aces that, and only that. Delivers dopamine in spades.

Ktm rc 390 long term review

I brought my bike in november 2015 and had it for more than 3 years. I use it for daily commute and i get a great mileage of 35kmpl in city.. Ride quality on city roads and highway is superb as bike feels very composed on high speeds which makes over taking easy because bike is small, nimble and agile. Bike is not made for driving on village roads or bad roads as it has a stiff suspension that makes it a very bumpy ride. It is still a head turner and performance wise it doesn't have a match in the same price category and segment. Servicing cost is also reasonable but i have broken my mirror couple of times.. And they are not cheap and easy to keep in parking as people tell tend to move it and sometimes break it in the process of taking out there own vehicle.

Ktm rc390 has got a fully digital instrument console which offers you 37 different pieces of information. However, a newer unit is available with ktm 390 duke. Rc390 comes with a 320mm front and 230mm rear disc brake. Also, not to forget, abs comes as a standard on rc 390. The bybre sourced disc brakes work perfectly even in case of hard braking.Since rc 390 is a premium offering, visible wires don’t really suit its personality. But i must add that the motor did feel a bit vibration on idle but once you set in motion it irons out with a raspy exhaust note in the background this continues to remain the biggest concerns with the ktm rc 390. Ktm engineers say that they have worked to direct the airflow from the fans towards the ground along with an additional exhaust fan for better cooling. But this doesn’t seem so effective when it comes to riding in real-world conditions.
